However, a part-time job can be more than a paycheck and a way to spend time outside of the classroom. It can actually be something that you love. At Fastweb, our mission is to find simpler ways for students to pay for school. In addition to scholarships and financial aid, we want to match students to part-time jobs that will either pay the tuition bill or supply late night takeout orders to the dorm. But we don’t want students to find just any old job; we want them to find experiences that bring them joy. That’s why when we look for part-time jobs for our students, there are a few that stick out as our favorites. They have to be perfect for the student schedule, pay well and provide a great foundation for any and all career paths. If you’re looking for somewhere to start the job search, consider these part-time jobs that we love!

Starbucks Barista

Sweet coffee. Great playlists. Tuition assistance. Starbucks isn’t just a nice place to relax and catch up with friends, it also has amazing work perks. They offer tuition assistance to both full- and part-time workers. Employees are able to receive up to $47,000 in tuition assistance through Arizona State University’s (ASU) online program. Tutor

If academics are your strength, consider being a tutor. You get to create your own hours, and tutors generally make quite a bit of money per hour. Find tutoring jobs through your high school guidance counselor, sites like Care.com or word of mouth. You can also make yourself a little more marketable in this field by completing a tutoring certification, which will simply provide you with helpful methods and strategies for getting the most out of your tutoring sessions.

Dog-Walker/Pet Sitter

If you’re an animal lover, you’ll LOVE being a dog walker or pet sitter. Not only do you get to hang out with man or woman’s best friend, but you get to establish your own hours and workload. Dog-walking will allow you go keep your evenings free, and pet sitting may offer weekend hours – both great options for working around a class schedule. You can search for these opportunities on sites like Care.com, social media or word of mouth. Let your neighbors know that you’re willing and available in conversation or by creating fliers. Don’t forget to mention if you have past experience with pets, including your own!

Bank Teller

If you want to get a jumpstart on your future career path in banking, consider starting with a part-time gig as a bank teller. This role offers great entry-level experience, and the chance to land a full-time job after graduation. Plus, bank tellers generally make well above minimum wage. Bank teller jobs will be listed on each bank’s website. Check out all of the banks that are in your area (also check to see if they’re near your home or college campus as well in order to transfer during the summer or the school year).

Brand Ambassador

Have a clothing line or product that you’re passionate about? You can actually get paid to market that brand on your campus or social media accounts. These jobs are paid, but they may also come with commission or other prizes. Brand ambassador jobs are few and far between so it helps to be somewhat of an influencer already. However, if you’re really passionate and knowledgeable about a product, you could become a brand ambassador before you know it.

Babysitter/Nanny

If you love kids, then you’ll love babysitting or being a nanny. These positions typically require week night and weekend work, making them perfect for your class schedule. Many students return to their hometowns to become full-time nannies over summer break. Both babysitting and nannying pay very well, enabling students to work when they want and how much they want while still making great money. Babysitting and Nanny jobs can be found through networking, word of mouth or sites like, Care.com.

Social Media Assistant

You’re on social media all of the time anyway, right? Might as well get paid for it! In the age of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you can actually get paid to handle the social media marketing for companies or products. Furthermore, it could lead to a full-time position after graduation as these particular roles are becoming increasingly common at non-profits, small businesses and large corporations. This is where you can really step up your job search game. While some of these positions may be posted on the company’s website, some places of employment may not have a structured job. However, you could be the one to make that happen. If there is a product or company that you’re interested in, reach out to them to see if they would be interested in employing you as their first-ever social media assistant.
