Fastweb wrapped up the 2022-23 school year and kicked off summer break with another $1,000 Scholarship Success Sweepstakes and we’re happy to announce the scholarship winner...Congrats to Bryan Whorton on his big scholarship win!
The Fastweb sweepstakes was open to all students—including high school, trade school, college and grad school students. Even parents can apply for this scholarship opportunity! Applicants were asked to answer a quick, no-wrong-answer, multiple-choice question: What’s your scholarship application goal? Scholarship seekers were encouraged to log in daily to gain additional entries.
Even if you didn’t win this round of Fastweb’s sweepstakes, we’re confident you found that there are quick and easy scholarships out there for even the busiest of students—OR parents!
We reached out to Bryan, our $1,000 Sweepstakes winner, to get his scholarship tips. We were thrilled with his advice. And there’s one piece of his feedback that could be the reason you may not be winning scholarships!
A non-traditional, college senior at Mid-America Christian University, here is what he had to say:
Why did you apply for this scholarship?
Bryan: I am looking to finish my degree in my 40's... Finishing what I started so many years ago is financially tough; trying to also do it while having a freshman enter college is even harder. Every little bit helps. I am trying to lessen the burden of student loans while finishing college.
How did you stay motivated to apply for the National Scholarship Month Sweepstakes?
Bryan: Thinking about the cost of school past and present keeps me motivated. I am also paying for my son to attend college this fall as well. So, the goal was to get any scholarships for either of us to lighten the load.
What scholarship advice do you have for other students/Fastweb members?
Bryan: Keep applying, pay attention to deadlines and CHECK YOUR EMAIL! Apply. Apply. Apply. You literally have nothing to lose. The answer is always no if you don't apply. Sometimes, it is yes when you do!
FASTWEB SCHOLARSHIP TIP: Bryan’s advice on checking email is 100% accurate. Students have missed out on scholarship wins because they never checked their email or don’t check it often enough.
There may be an email waiting in your inbox congratulating you on your scholarship win, with an ask to follow up. Some scholarship providers have a response cut-off or deadline before they move on to the next winner. You may also be asked to follow up with official documents verifying your student status to receive your scholarship money.
If you don’t check your email, you could miss out on a huge scholarship win!
Why should students use Fastweb?
Bryan: The [Fastweb scholarship] process is pretty simple, and it definitely makes applying for scholarships easier.
